PUCC Member Fabian von Lucken , Health Protect
Do you regularly wake with a headache, stuffy or streaming nose and sore eyes, but don’t know why? Your mattress or carpet may be the problem......
“Not many people know that the invisible dust typically found in mattresses and carpets in private homes and hotel rooms is extremely toxic” says PUCC member Fabian von Lucken, a licensed operator for Health Protect International, which has pioneered specialised sanitisation services across Australia and the Asia Pacific region.
“A single gram of dust can harbour up to 2,500 dust mites, a notorious trigger for the 20% of people who suffer from allergies and asthma: that means up to 2 million mites in one double mattress! It may also contain pesticides, solvents and other carcinogenic substances, but the most thorough conventional cleaning won’t touch any of them,” he says.
Happily, there’s a cost-effective, environmentally-friendly solution. HPI’s award-winning organic, sanitisation treatments completely eradicate allergens from mattresses, carpets and furnishings, bringing swift relief to allergy and asthma-prone householders and protecting hotel guests. “An average home with 3 bedrooms of carpet plus living room and 3 mattresses takes around 4-5 hours to treat. It’s very affordable, starting as low as $65 for a single bed mattress, and all work is based on an itemised proposal submitted up front, so the customer always knows what’s going on. Our equipment is flexible and lightweight enough to work in small areas; there are no long bulky pipes. With HPI we guarantee our treatments for 4 months for hotels; for private homes, we recommend a treatment every 6 to 9 months”.
“Our Healthy Hotels Program has measurable benefits for hotel owners”, Fabian adds. “Our solutions are produced to the highest US standards. Regular application prolongs mattress and carpet life, saves up to 170,000 litres of water annually for a medium-sized establishment and dramatically improves in-room air quality. HPI- certified hotels gain a branding edge that attracts health-conscious travellers, especially allergy sufferers - just as offering “no-smoking” rooms did a decade ago. This increases occupancy, strengthens loyalty and increases market share for an excellent return on investment”.
“HPI believes that no health-conscious allergic or asthmatic person should continue to suffer from an unsanitary environment. Our aim is to slow and reduce the incidence of allergies and asthma not only by developing the latest sanitisation technologies to remove and neutralise allergens, but also by providing education and services throughout our Asia-wide network.”

The Pyrmont Ultimo Chamber of Commerce actively promotes local business interests in a dynamic, inner-city environment.
Pyrmont Ultimo has changed dramatically since PUCC was founded and incorporated in 1997 by a handful of local businessmen. Despite its rich early history, it was by then a colourless, dormant area with a shrinking population.
Totally transformed over the past few years, it has become Sydney’s recognized media and creative centre, where television presenters and movie producers mix with entrepreneurs, IT managers, architects, artists and accountants in lively lunchtime restaurants and bars.
Recent major residential and commercial development has attracted both workers and investment. The fast-growing resident population now approaches 20,000, with the same number of workers, and thousands of students commute in daily.
Well-known attractions like Star City, Darling Harbour with the Convention and Exhibitions Centre, the Maritime and Powerhouse Museums and Chinatown draw floods of visitors into the area all year round.
Not-for-profit PUCC is a completely independent organisation that cooperates readily with local government and other bodies to promote and safeguard the interests of the Pyrmont Ultimo business community and local residents.
We welcome as members all large and small businesses and individual operators who aim to enhance their own business opportunities and who recognize the value of working collectively through the Chamber to create optimal quality-of-life for the local community as a whole.
Our monthly networking evenings and social events, usually hosted in rotation by PUCC members and featuring a topical guest speaker, offer an ideal platform for meeting, discussing and promoting business services and products.
Our Executive Committee consists of a team of hardworking volunteers who want to ensure that PUCC is a creative and dynamic business force which is well structured and creates plenty of events, programs, services and networking opportunities for our members. Our committee also ensures annual government funding is received and disbursed back into the business community. We work hand in hand with local organisations and other chambers and welcome new members.
Television, radio, film production and multimedia organisations rub shoulders with artists, financiers and furniture showrooms. Visit any of the many atmospheric cafes and restaurants and you get a sense of the creative energy that epitomises this area. Then there's the entertainment offered by Star City, Darling Harbour, the Maritime and Powerhouse Museums.
