Focus on Green Capital

PUCC's new partnership with the Green Capital business sustainability program, part of the Ultimo-based Total Environment Centre, will include an innovative workshop series in the first half of 2015. Aimed at local businesses and building tenants, managers and owners, the workshop modules will address sustainability opportunities for the built and public environments in key areas such as energy, water, transport, waste and reuse, clean technologies and shared economy models. Green Capital has been successful in securing seed funding from the City of Sydney's environmental grants program for its new pilot project called Smart Locale: Ultimo-Pyrmont Sustainable Precinct. The pilot project is being delivered in partnership with PUCC and focuses in particular on the rapidly emerging IT and creative digital sector as a key driver for boosting all business activity in the Ultimo-Pyrmont area in sustainable ways. Green Capital also runs the successful new event series HotHouse, which launched in 2014 and is hosted by the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo in its atmospheric Turbine Hall. The first three evening events - SPACE, STUFF and ENERGY - were sellouts and the fourth and final event for the year, WATER, will be held on November 12.

Dental Health-76

New Member Profile: Pyrmont Dental Health

PUCC is pleased to welcome new members, Pyrmont Dental Health. “We’ve been in Pyrmont since 2007,” says Practice Manager Lisa Le, “and basically service the local community, not just in Pyrmont...One of our furthest patients is from New York!” And if they’re coming from that far, you’ve got to be doing something right. When asked what it might be that keeps satisfied patients returning, Lisa suspects it must be  more than just the fish-tank - although it is a beauty. Practice owner Dr Patrick Dang, believes the secret lies in teamwork, customer service, and the  transparency of their business, assisted by the “inter-oral camera and screen”, which allows patients to see exactly what needs to be done with in-depth before and after pictures. “It’s like going to a mechanic, and having them actually show you where the brakes are worn, rather than just telling you what needs to be fixed,” he explains. Whatever it is, it must be working - the team have been recognised in the past by the City of Sydney Business Awards for four consecutive years!

Seafood Spectacular 5 of 93

Seafood Spectacular a Huge Success!

The aptly named Seafood Spectacular, a Pyrmont-Ultimo Chamber of Commerce mixer at the world-famous Sydney Fish Market was a huge success, allowing local business owners to mingle and the student-chefs from Sydney TAFE’s Commercial Cookery to show off their culinary prowess, in this entertaining and hands-on event. However, while local business owners enjoyed the fruits of their culinary labours, there was no time for the student chefs to relax - the evening was part of their course evaluations. The Sydney TAFE Commercial Cookery programme regularly hosts these well-loved mixers for the PUCC at their student restaurant, The Apprentice, which is open to the public. Be sure to drop by sometime for delicious fare, and the chance to enrich the learning experience of students in your local community. Special thanks to Brian Skepper, General Manager of Sydney Fish Markets, head chef Kevin Patrick and Fiona McLean, Head Teacher of Hospitality, Service Industries Faculty  at Sydney TAFE, and of course, the following apprentice chefs who made the event such a rousing success: Michael Bahkret, Jo Charly, Jack Coghlan,Yasuko Fukuda,Dylan Irvin, Lanz Kerr, Dulyawat Kiatchuen, Insook Kim,Jordan lee,Rojanapol Nivatkanj, Isidora Pajera, Sofia Pestana, Ryan Thomas,Nitan Thammasar, Rebecca Tuckwell.
